Gentleness of Jesus
Some opponents of Christianity are scandalized by the gentleness of Jesus for allowing His enemies to crucify Him. But let us ask the question: has He not conquered the world by His love? Why is it that Christians are the greater number? None was forced into that belief. It is a religion of freedom. How come?
The Chinese say that water is the most tender element, yet in the end it overcomes even hard elements, as dripping water wears away a rack (the Latin saying is as follows—“Gutta gutta cavat cavat lapidem“). Jesus too, gentle as He is, has conquered our hearts with love. “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. You will find peace” (Mt. 11:29). “Resist not evil” (Mt. 5:39). “Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:21). Are we not searching for peace? Loving as Jesus did is the answer. You know the definition of love—“love is humble, patient and forgiving” (1 Cor. 13:4).
