St. Teresa of Avila, also called St. Teresa of Jesus, was born in the year 1515 in the Province of Avila, in Castile, Spain. She is often described as a mystic saint. She wrote four books in which she described her many mystical experiences or her direct encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Also included in her books are her doctrines on Contemplative Prayer. Because of her important teachings on prayer she was named first Woman Doctor of Church in 1970 by Pope Paul VI.
Through the Celebration of her Fifth Birth Centenary the Carmelites of Davao hope to make the Life and Teachings of St. Teresa of Avila more known to a broader sector of Christian communities in Davao.
All are invited to join the Carmelites in this rare and unique celebration. (Cesar Kedesma)
