Davao’s Bone Museum Continues to Educate on Environment
For three years, the D’ Bone Collector Museum Inc. has educated countless individuals and groups about the care for the environment through information.
What started as a 250 sq.m. property with more than 150 specimens in January 27, 2012, D’ Bone Collector Museum now houses 1,150 specimens and counting in a three-storey building making it the largest collection of its kind in the Philippines.
Darell Blatchley, the proprietor of the said museum gave an orientation about the animals displayed in the museum, telling about the importance they play in the food chain and the ecosystem.
He cited instances that marine animals like dolphins and whales are killed by suffocation due to plastic garbage. That’s why they are always telling people especially children to avoid unscrupulous throwing of garbage everywhere.
“Of the three known whale and dolphin skeletons on display in the Philippines, the museum has cleaned and assembled of the three yet. D’ Bone Collector Museum has 29,” the museum bio states.
According to the museum bio, there are 83 species of whales and dolphins and the Philippines has 27 of them while the Davao Gulf has 18 species. The museum has gathered 14 species.
