Mindanao Week of Peace

Joint Statement of the Bishops-Ulama Conference
Theme: “We pray for long-lasting peace in Mindanao.
Give, Share, Live and Proclaim Peace.”

The Holy Bible and the Holy Qur’an enjoin Christians, Muslims Indigenous Peoples to pray always. This raising of minds and hearts in prayer to God whom they all with many names renews and deepens their faith.

The faith that does justice will bring about peace. This happens when members of families and communities are personally integrated in their individual selves through prayer and loving concern for others.

In Hebrew and Islamic cultural traditions this inner and outer integrity is expressed with the words, ‘Shalom’ (Hebraic) and ‘Salam’ (Islamic) which mean Peace. There are equivalents in other cultures.

Prayerful and peaceful communities can achieve long-lasting peace through constant struggle at personal and social transformation.
Only then can they live, give, share and proclaim peace.

May God Almighty, loving, merciful and compassionate continue to bless us and give us peace. Amen.
Peace to all! Assamalu-alaicum!
