Lay group vows to ‘keep Christ’ in schools

MARIKINA City, September 6, 2014—Defying an increasingly secularized mindset bent on keeping faith out of schools, a Catholic lay group is set to do what all Christians are expected to do—Christianizing the classrooms.

With forming “a God-loving people” no longer part of the government’s vision, the Parola (Lighthouse) Training Team intends to fill this vacuum through “Pisara ATBP: Bringing Jesus Back in the Classrooms” scheduled on September 12, Friday, at the St. Paul of the Cross Parish Hall, Marikina City.

Parola founder Nio Calonge said the event aims to discuss the various tools and ways that can be used to ensure the “Christ-centeredness” of campuses, the Filipino children’s second home, in reaction to a growing trend that deems belief in God as unnecessary.
JC Libiran, the director of the Light of Jesus Family’s Campus Missions, will be giving a talk titled “The Power of Connections” which will focus on the importance of cell groups in an educational setting.

In “Galaw at Laro alay kay Kristo”, speaker Miguel Ramirez will share how learning can be fun through faith-based creative games.
Priest Christopher Jeffrey Lejano Aytona, OP, who chairs the Dominican Province of the Philippines Media Board, will share his insights on the Christian use of social media.

In “Into The Groove”, Coach Jemie Grace will discuss the pedagogical merits of dancing, and Calonge himself, in “Hesus-Aralan”, will explain why Jesus’ presence in the learning environment is crucial in the formation of the Filipino youth.

According to him, the whole day seminar-workshop is specially-designed for catechists, student leaders, preachers and pastors; youth ministers, formators and counselors; members of religious congregations, values and Christian Living educators.

Learning investment fees are priced at P350 for professionals, and P250 for students and non-professionals.
