Davaoeño ranks 8th in Informatics Olympics
Lone Mindanao finalist Jadin Zam S. Doctolero of Ateneo de Davao University – High School (ADDU-HS) was ranked Number 8 in the National Olympiad in Informatics Philippines (NOI.PH) held on 5 July 2014 in Makati City.
“I’m thankful for the experience of being with some of the best programmers in the country,” Doctolero added.
Awarded a Certificate of Excellence, Doctolero has been studying computer programming for only a month. “I honestly didn’t expect to reach that far, and so I thank everyone who supported me—my coach, my family and my school, most especially God,” Doctolero said.
In the first NOI.PH online eliminations held last 28 June, Doctolero placed 10th among 88 students nationwide. He was coached by Benedict P. Maulingan, Information Technology 4 teacher.
Three other Davao Ateneans were awarded a Certificate of Achievement: Gerardo Z. Gaceta III, Hazel U. Jumawan, and Psalm Emmanuel S. Diao ranked 11th, 15th, and 16th, respectively. Daniel Lennard Wong also received a Certificate of Participation.
The first NOI.PH is the official qualifier for the International Olympiad in Informatics. The Top 4 qualifiers who will represent the country in the Olympiad next year are Aldrich Ellis Asuncion of Ateneo de Manila University, Miguel Lorenzo Ildesa of Philippine Science High School–Main Campus, Robin Yu of Xavier School and Adrian Reginald Sy of St. Jude Catholic School.
NOI.PH is endorsed by the Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) chaired by Martin Gomez. (Marinar F. Castro/@dcherald)
