10,000 QC students to undergo chastity formation

QUEZON City, June 8, 2014 – More than 10,000 Quezon city students will undergo regular values formation, which will include talks on the importance of purity and chastity, this year under a joint program by the Department of Education (DepEd) and a foundation of laypeople.

Purity, Chastity

Coming from no less than 20 primary and secondary public schools in the city, the students will be instructed and trained on character education and reform, as well as on purity and chastity, Education Foundation Inc. (EFI) executive director Myra M. Menguito said.

The discussions will depend on the capacity of the school kids to understand. Primary school children will be approached differently from high school students.

Monthly Bible studies will be included during the sessions, especially if the students are predominantly Christians.

Bible verses

Menguito said the facilitators “quote verses from the Bible” during these sessions.

Teachers and parents alike will undergo the program as a “refresher course” on the values the students are expected demonstrate in everyday life and every situation, she said.

In an earlier statement, EFI president Naomi A. David said the effective way to form the young is to witness their parents and teachers demonstrating the same values being instilled in them.

Having prior knowledge that teachers, and parents are busy with their respective duties, each session lasts for two hours only, she said.

“The foundation ensures that the length of time of the session is not exhausting on the part of students, teachers, and parents,” Menguito said. (Oliver Samson)
