Students, teachers, media practitioners learn to critique media messages

Students, teachers and media practitioners from Davao City and different parts of Mindanao learn how to be more critical in the messages displayed in the different media particularly in television and how they affect the way people think especially the young ones.

The Titus Brandsma Media Education Foundation co-organized the Mindanao Institute of Journalism last April 22 to 24 at the Ateneo de Davao University Jacinto Campus.

Military personnel and information officers also participated in the said event wherein they were trained how to deconstruct messages and be more careful in the selection of materials that are shown on television, radio and published on print media.

Fr. Toots Buenafe, O Carm., director of Titus Brandsma Media Education Foundation encouraged the participants to be more careful and critical especially that there are a lot of materials produced for the trimedia that promote sex, consumerism, secularism, among others.

The group were also shown some sample materials that promote good values. They were also taught about film dialogue, among other topics.

At the end of the seminar, the participants were given a certificate and an identification card that now make them media educators in their respective industries.
