The relics of St. John Paul II remind the people of his presence that he once lived his life here on Earth. The life he had was an inspiration to many. No doubt he was raised to the altars and declared saint by Pope Francis. His relics are now enshrined for veneration at the chapel of John Paul II College, Ecoland Drive, Davao City till May 15 and will be transferred to San Pablo Parish and San Pedro Cathedral. Pope Francis canonized John Paul II, John XXIII

As Pope Francis declared saints two of the 20th-century great popes, John Paul II and John XXIII, in Rome, April 27, the people of the Archdiocese of Davao watched it live, thanks to the initiative of the John Paul II College of Davao.

The school put up a large screen at the quadrangle for the live streaming of the said event. All interested were invited to join the huge number of faithful in Rome in welcoming our new saints.

Mr. Ernie Evangelista, the school president, and his wife, Mrs. Mercy Evangelista, together with their daughter, Dr. April Evangelista, the school director, were in Rome attending in person the said canonization.

The live streaming initiative was the culmination of the series of activities the school is organizing in gratitude for the abundant blessings it has received through the intercession of its Patron Saint, Pope John Paul II.

At 1:00 PM that Sunday (local time), the JPIICD quadrangle was jam-packed with young people singing, dancing and listening to catechesis and testimonies hosted by Fr. Junar de la Victoria and Fr. Russell Bantiles.

At around 2:30 PM, a Musical Tribute to Saint John Paul II, which highlighted some of his important doctrines, changed the mood from gleeful to reflective.

The school has invited musical, theatrical and dance groups to perform renditions of selected songs that underline the Great Pope’s teachings on family, the youth, love, peace, freedom, Mary and the Holy Eucharist.

Live streaming of the Canonization Rites started at around 4:30 PM. It covered the whole rites except the Mass. After the rites, Auxiliary Bishop George Rimando presided over the Eucharistic celebration.

Meanwhile, public veneration of first and second class relics of St. John Paul II, Saint John XXIII and other saints like St. Faustina Kowalska is going on from April 20 to May 15 this year.
