CWL Convention pursues Faith Deepening
MATI CITY – “Let’s continue to communicate our faith as co-responsible women of God in this Year of the Laity, but first by deepening our relationship with God through faithfulness to our Christian living and commitment to evangelization, and our ministry as CWL.”
This was divulged by Catholic Women’s League (CWL) National Board- Area Supervisor Yolanda Diaz in her keynote address during the 15th CWL Diocesan Biennial Convention in MatiCity, April 4-5, at the Golden Sunrise Resort in Punta Gemelina, Barangay Badas of said city.
Over a hundred ladies in blue gathered to listen to reports and to the Word of God, to pray, and to enjoy with each other, as they pondered on the convention theme: “Radiating the Light of Faith in the Life and Ministry of the CWL.”
The new Family Life Apostolate (FLA) coordinator of the diocese, Sr. Melody Tabucal, LGC, spoke on Responsible Parenthood and Natural Family Planning to help the members keep abreast with the Catholic pro-life principles amidst the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) Law.
“The work of Family unity in love remains the top target of ongoing transformation in the faith,” stressed Mrs. Josefina Altavas, National Board-Secondary Supervisor, in her welcome message, after the welcome address by Diocesan 1stVice President Mrs. Estela Dumadaug.
It may be recalled that two years ago, the CWL at their biennial convention adopted the theme for the Year of Faith – by communicating one’s faith through instruments of social commuications/media. This was manifested in the group’s support for selected Catholic radio programs and subscription to the Davao Catholic Herald, as well as in the holding of educational seminars on the media for young people, particularly in selected secondary public institutions in the East Coast, spearheaded by Mrs. Norma Lanaban, principal of the Baganga National High School, at least before the onset of the destructive super typhoon Pablo.
Most Rev. Patricio H. Alo, D.D. officiated at the concluding Eucharistic Celebration and the induction of the newly elected diocesan board officers and members. The bishop encouraged the members to “abide by the pro-life teachings of the Church and to radiate truth and love, starting with our own good example.”
The Night Socials on the 1st day featured five women of the “Royal Court” in their grand Filipina attire, introduced as: Gng. Kapayapaan- Mrs. Evelyn Ganados, Gng. Katapatan- Mrs. Rachel Bautista, Gng. Pag-ibig- Mrs. Delza Cervantes, Gng. Kawanggawa- Mrs. Lolita Dumabok, and Gng. CWL 2014- Mrs. Marife Manteza. Dance presentations were rendered by the Vicariates of Baganga, Banaybanay, Cateel, Lupon, and Mati.
The CWL banner has sought to educate and inspire everyone, especially Catholic women to play a role in the work of the Church for human and spiritual development by living out its ideals of C – Charity, W – Work, and L – Love, in its varied works of service.
