“Radio is not about iring-iring. Radio is not a “greetings” machine. Radio is not a match-making medium. Radio is not about “basta gwapo og tingog pwede na! Radio is not for the pa-cute. Radio is not for the senseless (Sorry for the word).”  -Dawn

Hiyee!  Congratulations to all the graduates especially the volunteers of DC Herald. As people clamor for the re-opening of our radio station (DXGN FM), here is a sharing from a former DC Herald intern and radio practitioner.

Dear KNOT,

My dreams?

To teach. To become a theater artist. To write a book. To build my own foundation. To have my own family. Yet, above all, to Save Radio.

Radio is the very medium that has a personal attachment to everyone. Bisan asa ka muadto, bisan unsay ginahimo nimo, you listen to the radio…

And if we continue to patronize the kind of listening which is annoying to the ear (no information, no entertainment, no education and no influence) which are our core, wala na g’yud.   Radio shapes our culture. Radio should teach, inform, influence, entertain and inspire. Unsa nalang man ang mabilin?

I am just sad.  “Wala na g’yud ang radio nga akong gidak-an. If only we continue to give proper training sa mga taga media per se, s’wak sa banga g’yud ang atong industriya. “ There are things to learn and unlearn g’yud.

I am not speaking as someone who knows a lot about radio and media as a whole. I am speaking as a mass communication graduate who in my childhood days, admired and looked up to the beauty of radio and broadcast.

Sayang g’yud. I hope dili mag change format ang akong paboritong station kay kung ing-ana, wala na gyud.  Unsa nalang man nga istasyon akong paminawon…ang among paminawon?

Naay nag survey sa among dapit ug nangutana kung unsa nga istasyon ang among ginapaminaw.  When my sister mentioned 2 stations nga dili ilaha, gipabalhin ba naman.

P’wede ma-shock? That was desperate. Tsk tsk.

Bantog madaut ang dagway sa media pirmi tungod sa mga taong nakasulod sa industriya nga wala man lang alam kung unsa kadako ang responsibilidad sa usa ka m’yembro sa media.

Use your creativity and be passionate. Ang hugaw sa usa, mahimong hugaw sa tanang naa sa industriya.

To end this, an inspiring message from PIA Director General Jose Mari Oquiñena during the Club 888 Forum says,

“As you write or broadcast, always ask yourself, “Am I building the next generation of the Philippines?

It is not enough to be strong, witty, etc. Always think of the young generation in all that I do.”  – Merle Dawn Comidoy – News Personality
