“Re-Charging” The Spirit

EASTER SUNDAY —  Christ is risen! It is the ultimate fulfilment of  our Christianity. HALLELUIAH!
I talked to some friends who told me the Holy Week was another occasion for  “battery re-charging”  of the spirit and  of the  faith. Yes, we sometimes experience “low batt” in spirit.  Our connecting lines to God are garbled or disrupted that we “cannot be reached”.  Perhaps, henceforth, we should stay plugged to God’s  socket so our spiritual batteries are on “full charge” at all times.

FLORES DE MAYO— During the  the month of May, we will celebrate    the traditional Santa Cruzan. Of course, we will see the fashionable “kapistahan” with the traditional  Reyna Elena on center stage. But  amid the hoopla, let’s  not forget the  religious significance of such celebration.

OBAMA VISIT — US President Obama will visit the country next weekend. This will be another occasion to renew old and strengthen new ties. Let’s admit it: we are tied to the US apron string by reason of international and diplomatic imperatives.

MOMMY D — By now, the sudden “front line” appearance of Mommy Dionisia during the Pacquiao fight is getting global attention and comment. I enjoyed watching her. It’s a spontaneous and natural demeanor  of a doting and proud mother.

NO CITY GYM —Remember the city sports gymnasium that former Mayor Ben de Guzman started building at the Magtuod area off the diversion road? The unfinished building is crying for intervention. It   now  costs Davao city taxpapers   about P225-million (actual cost plus loan interests). More tragic is that we are still amortizing the loan of this “white elephant” while certain safety and transparency issues remain unresolved. We cannot allow this to continue this way. Davao City, for all its claimed glory, does not have a modern sports facility worth its salt. We pale in comparison to  Digos City, Tagum City & Panabo City, to name just nextdoor neighbors.   Mayor Rody Duterte must handle  this decisively.
