Cardinal Tagle receives 6th Vatican appointment

MANILA, March 31, 2014— Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle  received another task in the Roman Curia in what could be his sixth Vatican appointment.

The latest is Pope Francis’ appointment of Tagle as member of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

The appointment was officially announced in the Vatican last Saturday as the pope continues Curia confirmations.

“This is his membership in as many Vatican offices,” the Manila Archdiocesan Office of Communications said.

The cardinal’s new appointment came two weeks after he was named among the three presidents delegate for the 3rd Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

Set to take place from Oct. 5 to 9 at the Vatican, the synod is being convened to discuss the theme of “pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization”.

The other presidents delegate of the synod include Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, Archbishop of Paris, France and Cardinal Raymondo Damasceno Assis, archbishop of Aparecida, Brazil

Last February, Pope Francis also appointed Tagle as member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.

The cardinal is currently a member of the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education.  He is also a member of the Permanent Council of the Synod of Bishops.

In 2012, he received two appointments: member of the Pontifical Council for the Family and the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant People.

Tagle also served as member of the XIII General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization in October 2012 and as vice-president of the Commission for the Message of the same assembly.  (CBCPNews)
