Mindanao’s new cardinal calls for prayers
The newly-inducted member of the College of Cardinals from Mindanao is asking his flock to always pray for him as he starts his new ministry in the Church.
In his thanksgiving Mass in Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cotabato City, Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, the Archbishop of Cotabato said everytime he wakes up in the morning, he recites a prayer that will help him perform his duties and he wants his flock to also pray the same for him.
The new cardinal mentioned five things namely:
Holiness
Wisdom
Humility
Generosity
Zeal
Cardinal Quevedo said being a cardinal is not a privilege but a duty. That’s why he needed those five traits in order to fulfill his mission as a shepherd and an adviser to the pope.
He added that his election as cardinal from Mindanao is a difficult mission especially in the local Church of Cotabato saying Cotabato is a chosen place and the different issues haunting the place like poverty, armed conflict, natural disasters, among others have made the pope decide to choose a cardinal from this part of the world.
The road to peace in Mindanao is a difficult track but Cardinal Quevedo is certain that prayers will lead him to what God has planned for him and for the Church.
