Araw ng Dabaw
We, the one million five hundred thousand plus Dabawenyos have a lot to thank for as we celebrate the 77th anniversary of the creation of Davao city. Today, Davao is Mindanao’s number one City in population and in revenue. It is Mindanao’s air, land and sea transport hub. Of the 60 plus cities, only 20 have revenues of more than one billion pesos. Of the 10 cities with revenues of more than 4 billion pesos, 9 are from Luzon. The only outsider is Davao. Davao is Mindnao’s industrial and Commercial center. With 5 universities, 15 colleges technical and nursing schools, the biggest public hospital the most number of private hospitals, and the first medical School, we have Mindanao’s biggest population of students, teachers, nurses and doctors. We are the only Mindanao City with the least number of brownouts. The archdiocese of Davao has kept pace with the city’s fantastic growth. We have the biggest number of parishes (37) and GKK’s (1,600 plus) the biggest number of congregations and orders of priests, nun and brothers the first and the orders of priests, nun and brothers, the first and the biggest minor and major seminary. It is noteworthy that the official inauguration of the city in 1937 started with a solemn mass and religious blessing by San Pedro Parish Kura Paroko Fr. Reyes S.J. Mabuhay ang Lungsod ng Dabaw.
