The Miracle at EDSA
The EDSA miracle on February 21 ended on February 25, 1986. Though less than one hundred twenty hours in our history, we still feel and see its political, social, economic and religious effects today. Most of the reports and stories after Ferdinand Marcos left on February 25 were haphazardly made and in haste. After 28 years, it’s time to take a second look and make deeper studies on how it happened.
The role of the Catholic Church, Jaime Cardinal Sin and of the Metro Manila parishioners have never been exhaustively analyzed. Today very few know that it was Cardinal Sin’s call to the faithful on Radio Veritas to go to EDSA to protect Fidel Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile that sparked the revolt. No other person could have done it.
Very few recall that the biggest bloddbath in our history was prevented by the act of a nun who knelt in front of the Marcos tanks, who were rushing to attack Camp Crame and raised her rosary while praying. The only casualty was a soldier who was killed on top of a television tower. God answered our prayers in His own way and in His own time. Truly, strange are the ways of the Lord.
