Belgium Allows Euthanasia for ill children

Lawmakers in Belgium are so close for the approval of the measure that would allow the right to euthanasia to terminally-ill children. King Phillipe of the Belgian Monarchy is expected to sign the said measure into law and make their country the first to lift all age restrictions on legal, medically induced deaths.

Compared with the United States where euthanasia is banned, Europe is relatively more permissive. Belgium is one of a few European countries that has legalized euthanasia. The Netherlands was the first to legalize it in 2002, allowing it in special cases for seriously sick patients 12 years or older. Luxembourg allows euthanasia for adults. While Switzerland allows doctors to help patients die. (Aimie Marie Nortez)
