Remain Childlike But Grow
Filipinos are known to be so devoted to the Santo Niño due to the history of our Christian faith. With the Holy Child Jesus as our model, we develop some positive attitudes of a child – docility, trust, spontaniety and humility among others. As Jesus says: “Unless you become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
Today, the Pontifical Missionary work of the Holy Childhood is remembered. It is the duty of parents and educators to teach children to become actively interested and devoted in the Missions. We cannot just rely on toddler schools without parents’ care of the integral formation of children. We must not allow the demands of economics and society to provide to our children material, physical and intellectual development only, and yet sacrificing their emotional, moral and spiritual growth.
Unless we spend quality time with them, they would not feel we are serious in their formation as a person. They might be fluent and excellent in academics but poor in relationships. Let us not make them a people with big heads but with small hearts. We need to teach them to pray, do good works, and offer sacrifices for the Missions so that they may remain childlike but grow.
