DavOr Guv: Embracing 2014 with more optimism and determination
City of Mati, Davao Oriental – For everything that 2013 had been, Gov. Corazon Malanyaon considered it as a retrospect of things that manifested more the strength and courage of the people of the province, and the “never say die” spirit of the province to emerge and survive against all odds.
“We had been through a lot. Last year, our focus was in the rehabilitation and recovery efforts after the wrath brought by Pablo. While our efforts are still continuing, we took pride that our brethren preyed by Pablo are now gradually getting back on their feet. They are getting back to where they were before. They are still into farming, but this time, resorted to other crops that would give them an earlier yield. I am happy to see them with hope this time, that they will definitely, rise again from the fall,” she said.
Aside from the needed attention given to Pablo victims, the provincial government is also very keen to ascertain that other services are not left behind for the people who are in need. In fact, next month, the province will again conduct the annual Provincial Surgical Mission, a free surgical operation offered by the province to indigent patients who could not afford the hefty cost of surgical operation.
“We are doing these for the past years now to bring the services closer to the people, and to address their health needs. We know a lot of our patients cannot afford the cost of operation now, and so they content themselves with the situation that they are in. With the surgical operation, the province will mobilize all resources, from the surgeons not only from the province but from other parts of the region who had been very supportive with our endeavors and giving their service for free, the medicines, and the budget of one watcher per patient. And from the experiences that we had, it feels great to hear the gratitude of the patients who availed of the service. You see, it is another chapter in their lives,” she explained.
As yet, the pre-screening of patients who wish to avail of the surgical operation is done by the group of Dr. Joy Sanico, the Asst. Prov’l Health Officer of the province. The operation caters to cases of haircleft, thyroid, cyst, hernia, ovarian cyst, and myoma.
On January 8, 2014, Gov. Corazon Malanyaon will again see another fruit of the labor that she led, as Subangan, Davao Oriental Prov’l Museum will be officially inaugurated and opened to the public.
As Subangan encompasses the richness of the natural and cultural heritage of the province, the Governor is scuffled with excitement because this will serve as her legacy for the province of Davao Oriental.
As one visitor described Subangan as “world class’, Subangan indeed, is more than an eye’s delight. It depicts the travails of the province in protecting the marine and cultural heritage for the generations to see and be in awe with.
The provincial government is not so conscious of the revenue that Subangan will earn, what is important is that it wil relay the message and the purpose of why it was constructed.
Gov. Malanyaon wants the people to learn, particularly the students, of the important compositions and enormous parts of the province, of its history and metamorphosis.
Ando so, with more things in store for the this year, the Governor let out an appeal to her work force in the provincial government.
“Let us continue working together, let us do things for 2014 to be more productive and worth looking back for all of us. I am still counting on your support and cooperation, after all, with deep faith, there is nothing we cannot do,” she concluded.
