The path of St. Martin de Porres
(Part 2 of 2)
When once I went with Fr. Boyet to buy fish from the fish port at Parañaque, Metro Manila, he told me a few days before to prepare myself for the task. I can always hear him, “mamamatay na yata ako.” Fr. Boyet is dedicated to his task as a missionary. After hearing this early morning of Sunday, I told him I may help him drive the vehicle. He smiled.
As I witnessed there are a few benefactors who help these young children. Just this Sunday, a few Koreans went to visit and offer food for the young ones. The choir of violin entertained them as little children show their talents in dancing. The visitors enjoyed the entertainment.
Fr. Boyet may somehow check if I really know how to drive as I was requested by Mommy Myrna, one of the house parents to drive the vehicle to bring the Koreans to the highway near a gasoline station. Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres in more or less 2 kilometers away from the highway.
Surprisingly, one of the Koreans left his cellular phone at the back of the vehicle. After Mommy Myrna told me, I requested her to go with me. She hopped for us to return the cellular phone. The owner tried to give money as reward. I and Mommy Myrna strongly refused the offer. We simply returned what is not ours.
At 11 pm, I already slept preparing for the dawn marketing with Fr. Boyet. He drove bound to Parañaque. As we returned I insisted on helping him drive back to Bustos, for him to relax. I simply need him to assist me with the destination.
We brought some of what we buy to Centro Salvador, at Tondo, the rest were brought to Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres, Bustos, Bulacan. We stayed at the market place till 3:30 am, and reached back to Bustos at 5:30 am. It was a tasking job. Fr. Boyet told me, “Mahirap ang buhay ng misyonero, lalo na kung seseryusohin mo.” This is what he is doing.
Fr. Boyet scold’s children who do not pray accordingly, like the Holy Rosary. He is strict to those who do not abide by his rule, but gentle to those who follow him intently.
He walks the steps of St. Martin de Porres as he helps the poorest of the poor. He helps the needy. This is a difficult task, but if you see the smile of these people from within, I forget its difficulty. It will add to the hollow place from within.
