The Mystery of Divine Motherhood

“The oldest feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the mystery of her being the Mother of Jesus Christ, true God and true man. It is the principal feast of Mary because her divine Motherhood is the reason why she received the special privileges of Immaculate Conception and Assumption into heaven. Mary is the Mother of Christ and the Mother of the Church” (Ordo).

Like Mary, Mother of God, we had a lot of questions throughout this year 2013. In the middle of last Lent season, we asked why would Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI resign from his office and who would succeed him. While the year of faith was about to conclude as the Ordinary Time of the liturgical year was ending, many asked, especially the victims of “Yolanda”, where God is, is He sleeping?

But in the midst of all those questions, we held on to faith that amidst the experience of darkness, true light shines. We laugh at the tears and cry at the laughter of year 2013 trusting that we are neither abandoned nor forsaken. We have a mother, the bearer of Light, who always intercedes for us.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
