Davao celebrates Mindanao Week of Peace
This year’s week of peace which officially started on November 28 highlighted reflections on peace given the realities of Mindanao and the country.
Archbishop Emeritus Fernando R. Capalla and peacemaker Milet Mendoza shared their insights and reflections on peace and the need to be peacemakers given the realities of the times.
The peace forum attended by priests, pastors, imams, and AFP personnel and others interacted with Archbishop Capalla and Ms Mendoza. One of the panel of reactors was Councilor Pilar C. Braga, who is active in the women for peace movement in Mindanao.
Aside from the peace forum, the sports for peace was also conducted celebrating the joy of sharing in games and plays by priests, pastors, imams, police and the AFP personnel.
Holy Cross of Davao College Athletic Director Rudy Salvador together with his college varsity facilitated the games. “I was happy to have shared the idea of sports as a vehicle for peace among our pastors, priests, imam and the military personnel:, Salvador said.
Joseph Sabaricos of Terrain Challenger 611 and his groups also initiated the Bike for Peace to give the awareness to “our people that peace is something that we all must work on “.
Convenor for Catholics Fr. Pedro P. Lamata said he is happy that we continue to work for peace and to share in God’s abundance in the way we live our lives”.
“We hope that next year’s week of peace will be more vibrant with participants from all walks of life”, Fr. Lamata said.
The Week of Peace is the program of the Bishop Ulama Conference started by Archbishop Capalla together with other protestant bishops and Ulamas.
