Renouncing Self to Follow Jesus

In the gospels we may at times hear the words of Jesus inviting us, especially in matters that might concern our love or justice for ourselves or towards our neighbor. It could involve some matter of justice or doing some important service to our fellow man or woman. This love we owe to Jesus our Savior He would like also to be extended to our fellow men and women, whom we may encounter in our day to day existence, not simply to mention our own family, though naturally we do have to extend the love of Jesus to our own families, as is but the normal thing. But all this has to be done according to the will of Jesus Christ. You can see that in the lives of many saints in Catholic history who dedicated their lives in total service to the gospel. Their lives exemplified also how such love is to be extended to close relatives and to people in general.
“Anyone who prefers father or mother to me is not worthy of me. Anyone who prefers son or daughter to me is not worthy of me. Anyone who does not take his cross and follow in my footsteps is not worthy of me. Anyone who finds his life will lose it; anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it” (Mt. 10:37). Jesus wants to convey to us some hidden messages here; that He will reward us if we put His glory and interests above our own.
