Playing God
GOD SLEEPING? –Mayor RODY DUTERTE, upon returning from Tacloban, said the devastation was total that he said: “Maybe God was sleeping” in allowing such tragedy. He was one of the early responders bringing with him relief and emergency workers even while the national government was still agog on what to do.

PLAYING GOD? — My friend, Businessman AL BARETTO who is a lay Catholic leader however has another theory on the thousands of lives lost due to “Yolanda” — including the string of fatal calamities recently that hit the country. He said that it dawned on him that perhaps this was God’s way of “retribution” for man’s proclivity to “play god”. For example, the newly- passed RH law is designed to control population growth. It’s like God saying: “So, you Filipinos want to bring down your population huh? So here it is! Woooof!” In one swath, thousands of lives are taken. Interesting thought.

UNANIMOUS VOTE — The Supreme Court ruled 14 -0 declaring unconstitutional the famous PDAF. It simply means that the legislative branch (Senate and the House) has no business getting involved with the implementation of projects. . They should concentrate on legislative work — meaning making, reviewing laws. Which is what congressional work is all about. Doing away with corruption-prone “lump sum allocations” promotes transparency. No more “ghost” projects.

PRESIDENTIAL DAP –The DAP, which is the “pork barrel” of the President is another animal. This is not found at all in the national budget, unlike the PDAF which appears as a “lump sum fund”. Let’s see where this leads to.
Expect criminal cases to follow. Accountability time, folks!

PETTY? — Malacanang should stop looking for people to blame for the moment while we are all on relief stage attending to “Yolanda”. There is a proper and time for all this.
Even President Aquino should try to rally for national unity now. And remove political colors for the moment. Wearing “yellow” colored shirts in their disaster site visits is now being noticed and criticized. Petty, yes but showing sensitivity.
