K of C Forms new 4th Degree Assembly

The Knights of Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan Province, Dist. XII, has announced the formation of a new 4th degree Assembly in the Archdiocese of Davao.

In a letter dated June 20, 2013 by Supreme Master Dennis J. Stoddard of the Supreme Office of the KofC, New Haven, Conn., U.S.A. informed Pedro M. Rodriquez, Jr., Vice Supreme Master, that the Committee on Charters approved on June 20, 2013, the establishment of St. Francis of Assisi Assembly No. 3428, and issued its Charter Certificate after being ratified in a Board meeting by the BOD.

Spearheaded by Dist. XII Master of the 4th Degree, SK Reynaldo C. Trinidad, the new Assembly is composed of 32 members coming from Sto. Nino Amigopoy Co. No. 11048 and St. Francis of Assisi Co. No. 14564, all of Ma-a, Davao City. To qualify in the 4th degree, one must be a 3rd degree member in good standing in his Council, and a citizen of the community he resides; once he is 4th degree he will be addressed, “Sir Knight” or “SK”.

Appointed Charter Officers were: Rev. Fr. Emmanuel M. Gonzaga (F. Friar), SK Jose P. Delda (F. Navigator), SK Magno P. Porticos, Jr. (F. Captain), SK Rolando C. Quidilla (F. Admiral), SK Lolito A. Patino (F. Pilot), SK Dennis S. Obcena (F. Comptroller), SK Rogelio T. Sarcena (F. Purser), SK Carlito G. Echavez (F. Scribe), SK Jose Nelson G. Namocatcat (F. Inner Sentinel), SK Wilfredo H. Secretaria (F. Outer Sentinel), SK Romulo A. Ramirez (F. Trustee, 3 yrs.), SK Olympio C. Agudera, Sr. (F. Trustee, 2 yrs.) and SK Juanito L. Casumpang, Jr. (F. Trustee, 1 yr.) Color Corp Commander is SK Dennis F.S. Obcena. The Officers were installed in a joint ceremony with four other Assemblies by MFD Rey Trinidad, September 15, 2013 at My Hotel, Davao City.

The 4th Degree Assembly, which is considered “Honorary” degree in the KofC, glorifies God by serving the community and country, and foster patriotism by teaching personal responsibility and protects symbols of national pride; honoring veterans for their services and sacrifices. Finally , it maintains leadership role on important moral issues, recognizing what a man stands for. One component of the 4th degree is the Color Corps whose distinctive presence is seen during parade, wreath-laying ceremonies and Catholic functions in the community. Color Corp members wear the colors and regalia uniform with pride and honor as representatives and “show window” of the Knights of Columbus.
