How to teach Bible stories and verses to children
Everyday, a teacher always thinks of better ways to teach. As a Grade School teacher, creativity is a MUST or else pupils will end up talking, playing or running around during class. It’s all the more a great challenge for a Christian Living Education Teacher to catechize pupils about the truths of our CATHOLIC FAITH so as not to make it “boring” manner as children complain.
That is why being invited to participate in a Seminar Workshop in line with “Methodology: On How to Teach Bible Stories and Verses to Children” one can exclaim: God heard my prayers! This three-day seminar with the Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (ECBA) Executive Secretary, Dr. Natividad B. Pagadut, as the speaker one can truly be blessed to be part of this learning activity.
To start with, the speaker made the participants understand the RATIONALE of the seminar, that is:
The New Evangelization exhorts all communicators of God’s Word to come up with new ways, new modes, new fervor in bringing Jesus to people. Inspired by this challenge from our leaders of the Catholic Church, is venture once more in various methodologies in catechesis adapted to our changing times and to the developmental stages of our children.
Moreover, VERBUM DOMINI says: “TO BE CHRIST CENTERED, CATECHESIS MUST BE ROOTED IN THE WORD.
With this in mind, participants are assured to go back to their respective parishes and schools definitely not empty handed.
In the first session, she made us have a clear understanding of the stages of Faith: EXPERIENCED FAITH, BELONGING FAITH, SEARCHING FAITH, and OWNED FAITH. Then the activity is focused on FOSTERING FAITH THROUGH BIBLE STORIES.
At the end of the day, this are not just the applicable techniques that we can use in spreading the Word of God especially to children. But as Evangelizers, we should always put into our hearts and mind that by the end of each lesson, our ultimate goal is that our children will become effective agents of social transformation for us a to have a:
“Christ-Centered Nation”.
