Knights in Action

The Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Council (8069) of Matina, Davao City, under the leadership of incumbent Grand Knight Felix Enriquez, together with their “Partner-in-Service”—San Pablo Parish of Davao, thru K of C Chaplain, Fr. Ritsche Gamaya, recently launched their Osteoporosis Awareness Program by undertaking a massive Anlene Bonehealth Check-up, with the Senior Citizens Club of San Pablo Parish and other parishioners, as first batch of beneficiaries, after the 9:00 am Mass last Sunday, September 29.
This will be a year-long community service project, with an initial free medical consultations conducted by PGK Dr. Ador Villanueva and Dra. Baby Banico, made possible thru the initiatives of Community Director, Past Grand Knight Mario N. Lopez, and dynamic team members SK Manny Nierra, SK Edgar Rico and SK Silvestre Togon, Jr., PGK Dionisio Damole, Jr., and PGK Jovencio Napoles, with the full support of other past Grand Knights and Council Officers/members.

The Anlene BoneHealth check-up must be undertaken at least once a year as recent medical study shows that 1 out of every 2 Filipinos is at possible risk of Osteoporosis—which is a condition wherein the human bones become fragile and brittle and can eventually lead to stooping, fracture and even death.
Although Osteoporosis is an incurable disease, that develops when, usually beginning at age 35 years old, bone breakdown can start to outweigh bone formation, which can eventually lead to a gradual decline in bone mass and strength as it starts to lose minerals such as Calcium.

However, by avoiding certain risk factors such as cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, excessive caffeine consumption, poor nutritional intake and inactive lifestyle, among others, plus regular bone health check-up, Osteoporosis may effectively be prevented.

The next Anlene BoneHealth check-up is scheduled this October 13, 2013 after the 7:30 am Sunday Mass, to coincide with the Parish Blood-letting activity at the Parish Pavilion. Healthy donors are requested to “Share their blood, and save a life.”
