Healing through the Mass

1009

The Mass, or Holy Eucharist, should have, and in fact, has tremendous healing power. If it were not, then hallow would be the pronouncement of the Church that the Mass is the summit to which all the prayer of the Church is directed, and the fountain from which its power flows.(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, n.10). It is the highest form of official public prayer.

The church is itself a healing place. This is the experience of countless individuals. Weighed down by physical and mental fatigue, they experience refreshing peace upon entering the church. This is because the church is pervaded by the fervent prayers of the faithful that continue to accumulate over the years. That feeling of refreshing peace is in distinct contrast to the eerie atmosphere encountered in buildings where crimes, such as murder, once took place. It is good to come to the church several minutes before the Mass starts. Your personal prayer will surely enhance the church’s refreshing atmosphere.

Healing is an integral part of the ministry of Jesus. Wherever Jesus is, healing takes place. The four versions of the Gospel are indomitable witnesses. In the Mass we encounter Jesus most forcefully. Therefore, healing must take place. The Mass is a celebration of the three major movements of Jesus which enrich and bestow substance to the whole New Testament. The three movements are: 1) Descending; 2) Ascending; 3) Re-descending.
