Candles lit for peace in Zamboanga

Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., led Davao City parishioners in a simultaneous public candle lighting and prayer for peace in Zamboanga City which was held in front of the San Pedro Cathedral at 6:00 pm on October 1.

“Together let us pray for peace in the world, particularly for the restoration of peace in the troubled areas in Mindanao, especially in the City of Zamboanga,” he stated in Circular No. 28, S. 2013, issued last September 27.

Valles was archbishop of Zamboanga prior to his appointment as Archbishop of Davao.
The circular enjoined all the lay faithful in the archdiocese to “participate in the
Mindanao-wide simultaneous silent prayers and public (in our front yards, gates, windows, porches, parish church compounds, etc.) candle lighting for the restoration of peace.”

In his homily said during the mass preceding the candle-lighting event, Abp. Valles urged everyone to be child-like in faith as St. Therese of the Child Jesus whose feast day also fell on October 1. “Let us confidently put our trust in God, especially now in Mindanao where our faith is being tested. Let us pray like children and remain faithful and trusting in God.” (@dcherald)
