The life Space of Man and Animals
Animals have very sharp hearing sense, thus are able to listen to even the subtlest change in their environment. Such sharpness enables them somehow to discern its implication and to consequently behave in a way that is appropriate with the messages communicated in that listening. Likewise, man if fully open to the events with his whole being would be able to respond accordingly to changes in his life. Man is dynamic being. He goes through different stages in his life, which demands unique and appropriate response.
The Spirit of Obedience
Applying the foregoing idea to the invitation of God to man, he then would be able to participate fully to the realization of God’s Plan in his life. What is God’s invitation to him? It is to imitate Christ and participate in His mission; to dialogue with Him; to know oneself in order to be able to give oneself obediently; and finally to discern and obey God’s will.
How can man then achieve a state whereby he can appropriately respond to the messages being communicated to him? What does it mean to be fully open to the events of his whole being?
Let us review our introduction. An animal makes full use of his senses to discern his environment. Man, on the other hand, has become dependent on technology to tell him any change occurring around or within him. Hence, there is a need to make full use of his senses to aid him in discerning his environment just as well as animals. Both man and animals have the same instincts. But ma n could do more because he is equipped with an intellect.
Hence, to enter into the center of life, which is God, one has to undergo a process that starts from the self, to others, and then to God. To illustrate this we use the analogy of the jar using the Filipino language.
A jar has loob (interior or inner part), lawak(space or expanse)and lalim(depth). In making the right decision one has to consider the following;1)Buo ang loob (pangatawan at paninindigan) or determination and being resolute in living out the decision; 2)isaloob ang kapwa, a process that involves self-disclosure and “pagsasaloob ng pakikipagkapwa”, that suggests a certain degree of cohesiveness and being one with others, and; 3)”sumpa-panata”, paghahanap o panatili sa sentro ng buhay, ang Diyos, at ang arawaraw na pagkakatawan nito (to search and to remain at the center of life, which is God and to give life to it in ones daily existence.
Therefore, to be able to participate in the mission of Christ is to know myself better so that I could give if freely to Him. Knowing what I am giving up and giving it up for the kingdom of God is meaningful because I enter into the relationship with freedom that is rooted in the center of life that is God.
