July is nutrition month

St. Paul College of Pasig Davao Campus celebrates nutrition month by starting with a mass followed by sandwich making from grades one to three. The categories for the competition in cooking are:  A for grades one to three, B for grades four to six and C for grades seven to fourth year.

Zoofari party with its bring me game and AVP presentation for nutrition month with the theme for this year “Gutom at Malnutrtion, sama-sama nating wakasan” was held. Jill Casumpa, events and party planner said that they do this “for them [children] to be more excited to come back to zoofari again and again and also to promote Zoofari kids adventure and to market our party.”

Pauline Britaña, grade five, said that they want to satisfy the judges out of the sotanghon soup, afritada and fish fillet that they cook. “We have vegetables, the ingredients are not that very fatty and are also healthy. And that makes it healthier,” Britaña said.

“Dapat maging conscious sa mga kinakain, kasi makakatulong na makakuha ng right nutrients kung aware sa food intake.” Arvin Gara, TLE coordinator said.

Christine Bernardo, Parents Homeroom Collaborating team (PHCT) president said that “we were proudly cultivating resourcefulness for the children, nagluluto sila with whatever they have and also the tulungan and bayanihan spirit among themselves kung pano nila papasarapin yung ulam, how are they gonna present the food.”

The criteria for judging include the taste, presentation, creativity, originality, and cleanliness. After the cook-out they have to set a table which will be judged as well.

According to Christine, this years’ activities are really new. “Yung ganito ka gulo, bagong bago ito for nutrition month sa kanila,” she added. Right now they added the nutri-jingle, nutri-dance, cooking contest and the sandwich making for the category A.

Sr. Teresita Baricaua, SPC in her message said they wanted to develop in the students the value of value of cooperation,  volunteerism, generosity and of simplicity, humility and gratefulness.

St. Paulcollege of Davao wants to impart to children to eat balance diet. A nun commented that to end malnutrition is a grand dream, we will never end malnutrition, but this knowledge may lessen it.

Alia Molly, the Student Council Team (SCT) president, said “we have to be grateful kung anong meron tayo kasi maraming mga batang hindi kumakain pala na hindi namin alam especially sa mga students dito, hindi rin lang dito pati sa lahat ng schools, they have to be thankful kasi nakakakain sila unlike other kids na wala,” she added.

The success of the event was made possible with the following sponsors being brought by Mary Ann del Fierro namely Soya Milk and the Zoofari adventure.
