‘Don’t believe everything you see in social media’

Be careful if Cardinal Tagle added you as friend on Facebook because he is not the real cardinal who added you.

Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle of the Archdiocese of Manila has warned people against those who assume his identity and create Facebook accounts bearing his name and asking for solicitations.

In a report posted at the cbcpnews website, the Manila archbishop said, “I just discovered that a lot of Facebook accounts bearing my name have been created by people I do not know. Some of those accounts are even being used to solicit money from people.”

“Whoever is behind this scheme, I am hoping that your conscience will haunt you and make you feel guilty,” the cardinal said, adding that they are using a different identity.

“You should not believe everything that you see in the social media,” the cardinal said.

He added that people should be more cautious and confirm the validity of solicitations to the appropriate office before giving their donations.

He also said the social media should be used to experience truth and justice of God and not the dishonesty of the world.
