Masscompatibilty!
“What you see is what you get”. That is usually not the case in Mass Communication. The course dubbed as “Jack of all trade”, chances are if you’re a freshman enrolled in this course, you might have the impression that this course is all about spotlights, flashy cameras, having a serious and mean charisma to be a news anchor or you might as well be thinking about lights, camera, action to punch you a ticket to the subway, of stardom. Yeah, we’re getting there (sort of) but before your sojourn as a mass communication student, have you ever asked yourself the reasons why you took this course? Was this the course of your choice when you were in high school? Or did you just ran out of choices and just settled yourself with this course? Are you really into this? Cleaning these questions provides a concrete component in contextualizing the compatibility between you and Mass Communication as your course. Here are some factors to consider in weighing your compatibility.
Interest
One thing to consider when choosing a course is interest in Mass Communication; you have to squeeze out every ounce of interest you have for you not only to learn but also to enjoy what you’re doing, of course. You’ve got to have this interest in order for you to surpass the challenges that this course has to offer. If you are interested with what you are doing, it is more likely for you to absorb lessons with ease and on that note, doubts and fears will not be a factor anymore.
Strengths and Weaknesses
God equipped us with talents as gifts for us to unlock, use and develop. It is up to us on how we are going to use it. I prefer to call these gifts “strengths”, it can be used for our advantage and if misused this can easily be our weakness or disadvantage. The talents that we have serve as our weapon to combat trials in life and by extension, our college education as well. It is essential for us to know our capabilities so that we can fully utilize it to gain positive results and negate our weaknesses. Knowing what you can and what you can’t do is very essential in determining compatibility.
Longevity
Another aspect in determining whether you are compatible with this course is longevity. The time, efforts and expenses plus the sacrifices you have invested in your subjects should all be taken into account when talking about longevity. Chances are that if you have sustained a good academic performance in this course for a long period of time, then, it is somehow a validation that this course suits you.
Positive results
A very evident omen in weighing your compatibility with Mass Communication as your course is the results of your performance in the class. It is one way of gauging the things you’re good at and things you’re not good at. Through frequent self-evaluation, you will be able to appreciate the outcomes of your efforts. If your hard work is paying off by paying you dividends then you’re on the right track.
Risks
As Mass Communication students, we are often involved in fast paced and pressure packed transactions that requires superb physical and mental awareness but sometimes our apprehension gets the best of us. These are the time when taking risks comes into the picture. Though, there are no guarantees that taking risks will result to your desired outcome but it is definitely a better option rather than staying anxious and do nothing to help yourself move forward. If you are the type of student that are more than happy enough to keep themselves grounded and taking a backseat when the circumstances does not permit to do so, then probably you are not quite into this.
