Abp. Valles: We are rocks in building the Church
“In the wisdom of God, all of us, like St. Peter, will become a rock in building the Church,” said Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, Archbishop of Davao, during his homily in the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul and at the same time in the celebration of the 165th Parochial Fiesta of San Pedro Cathedral Parish, June 29, 2013.
The Prelate also emphasized the prayers of the early Christians in asking the intercession of Sts. Peter and Paul, saying: “O God, who on the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul, gives us the noble and holy joy of this day and grant we pray that your Church may in all things follow the teaching of those [apostles] through whom she receives the beginning of the right religion.”
He said that Sts. Peter and Paul truly bring the faithful to Christ, saying: “These two great Apostles teach us to pray in a fervent and passionate manner.”
“We must be like St. Paul who says ‘I have kept the faith’. Our faith must intensely dream of heaven. And St. Peter who profess ‘You are the Christ; you are the Son of the living God,” he furthered.
Archbishop Valles remarked, “Jesus, knowing the frailty of Peter, made Peter the Rock where he builds his Church.”
He ended his homily by asking the intercession of St. Peter and Paul.
Themed “San Pedro: Panig-ingnan sa Pagtoo’ng Kristohanon”, the celebration of the fiesta was indeed joyous, festive and life enriching.
