In God do we trust, till death do us part
It was not love at first sight, … could pass for love at first bite. Chocolate bars spoke of his care, and the unobtrusive paid-for snacks and meals whenever they bumped into each other in shops. Then, the signature soft pat on her head as to a special younger sister when they go their separate classes. He was an upper class man to her first year in college. For four years, it was this comfortable and stable friendship between them.
Two years after college, they got married despite the fight-to-the-last stand of his long-time girlfriend and the disapproval of his parents. Two boys and two girls were born and rolled with the ups and downs of their marriage.
Like most other couples, they lived normally-ever-after.
On the 26th year of their marriage, the clause “… in sickness and in health…” challenged them. He got terminally ill. Given the grace of charismatic renewal of the entire family, they faced the coming days bravely. He sought medical treatment, forgave and asked forgiveness for his faults, drew family into deep prayer, favored friends by accepting praying-over, set her free to marry again, chose what he was to wear, and asked for continued prayer when he was gone – kindly preparing everyone for his inevitable death. The daily ritual while in hospital was praying the Divine Mercy, Rosary, and bible sharing. He died peacefully surrounded by family and friends in prayer.
Each pain is unique. The way we deal with pain is unique too. But one truth is constant.
Clearly, marriage, (and all other human relationships), is firstly a union with GOD. To love another and to love back is from GOD. JESUS is the primary NINONG, for by HIM, for HIM, with HIM is the sacrament made complete. To invite HIM in the choice of a lifetime partner, to sustain and persevere in the union, to be models to one’s children, to forgive and seek forgiveness, to give a second chance, to suffer and watch a loved one die ahead, to accept one’s humanity, helplessness and dependence before HIM, and much more, all come from HIM.
GOD alone is the GIVER of good. Let us trust HIM, HE never fails.
