Flores de Tagumeño 2013, a success
CITY OF TAGUM, DAVAO DEL NORTE – 26 beautiful sagalas paraded in Tagum City’s major thoroughfares as part of the culminating activities of the 5th Flores de Tagumeño last May 25, 2013, which is a month-long activity that honors the Blessed Virgin Mary.
City of Tagum Tourism Council Chairperson Madame Alma L. Uy said the Santacruzan de Tagumeño, as spearheaded by the City Government of Tagum and her council together with the religious sectors under the Diocese of Tagum, is uniquely Tagumeño as different groups in the city joined forces in the revival of this tradition.
After the Holy Mass officiated by Msgr. Ulysses Perandos at the Parish of Christ the Eucharistic King, the 26 sagalas walked down the road with their respective escorts, each pair made royal and grand with their arcs adorned with varieties of flowers.
These sagalas were dressed with gowns as designed by leading fashion designers based in Tagum City and Davao City.
The Santacruzan de Tagumeño is just part of the many activities staged in Tagum in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Under this month-long activity, children in the different Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK) across the city devoted their time for Flores de Maria, where they were taught about the Catechetical teachings of the Church, offered flowers and sing songs of praise to Mother Mary and recited the Holy Rosary.
A chamber choir concert-competition dubbed as “Harana Kay Birhen Maria” was also held last May 24 at the back of Christ the King Cathedral that was followed by the praying of the Holy Rosary using the giant rosary at the foot of the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is believed to be the world’s largest rosary.
