The Family Life Apostolate (F.L.A.)
Q. Is the FLA necessary.
A. Yes. It is an important junction of the Church.
Q. What is its role in the parish.
A. There are weddings every week. The process is 1) The Cura Paroko interviews the couple 2) If approved, attends the pre cana (before the wedding) seminar. This is done every second week of the month from Saturday to Sunday. Because the priest is busy (masses; weddings, funerals, GKKs, anniversaries, confessions, meetings with parish organizations, etc.) the FLA conduct the seminars. Mansibado means a couple living as husband and wife though not married. The GKK and the FLA look for mansibado couples and request them to have a church wedding. The FLA holds mansibado seminars every third week of the month from Saturday to Sunday using the pre cana system.
Q. What else.
A. in 2012, the Reproductive Health bill became a law. The F.L.A. is preparing a seminar program for natural family planning which will be given to the faithful. Fr. Orly Angelia is the archdiocesan head of the LFA. Since 2006, the 36 parishes of the Archdiocese had been leading the opposition to the government projects which is against catholic beliefs like barangay health centers, encouraging vasectomy, ligation, intra uterine devises, and the use of condoms and birth pills.
Q. Is it worth it?
A. Yes. The FLA and the GKKs are the front-liners of the Church in the information drive to warn the faithful that secularism, materialism, consumerism and worldliness must be balanced with religious family and moral values. Without these three values, it is as if the faithful is left adrift on a boat without a rudder or compass.
Q. That’s a big and a difficult job.
A. Yes. The FLA volunteers give their time, talent and treasure to carry out the church programs involving the family. Many are called but few are chosen. Please be one of the chosen.
