OLLP Youth Encounter – a great success!
With a theme, “celebration of faith and a faith to be shared,” the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal held its first Youth Encounter through the initiative of Youth Ministry Coordinator Maryll Monica Piastro. About 140 youth delegates from 15 different GKKs joined the said YE held in the parish ground overnight last May 17-18, 2013. It was made success through the efforts of ten youth organizers and six seminarians under the care of the OLLP.
In an interview with Piastro, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming responses of GKK youths as she was expecting only about 70 to 80 participants. She also revealed that she got her inspiration from her experience with DAYCA’s Vocation Jamboree which she attended last year. She said further that the YE was also meant to acknowledge active participation of youth in their respective GKKs.
Piasto was truly looking forward on the positive result of the YE as it was launched in the OLLP afar from the usual summer youth activities like sports fests and youth camps. GKK youths, anyhow, also have their own distinct summer activities in their respective GKKs. Among others, the San Roque Kadayawan GKK convened about 31 youths on their second youth camp as initiated by their PSB Rommel Biliran last April 19-20; while the Holy Rosary GKK gathered 18 youths on their first youth camp as initiated by their PSB Joel Dellomes last May 10-11.
YE summed up all youth activities in the parish. With the zeal and enthusiasm of Youth Ministry Coordinator Maryll Monica Piastro, along with her ten youth organizers and six seminarians, and in coordination with the GKK PSKs and PSBs, the Youth Encounter in the OLLP was a great success. It was culminated with a Holy Eucharist, and all participated youths were sent forth by the OLLP Parish Priest Father Dexter C. Veloso.
