Our Lady of Mount Carmel, mother of peace
The Church recognizes our mission of peace in the continuing spiritual battle when our people experience hurting words from people in authority. “Our enemies are not fellow human beings… we admonish the faithful to remain steadfast in our common vocation and mission to actively work for peace.”
Our beloved bishops exhort us to be brave and to rejoice and be glad in witnessing Christ. Mindful of the sufferings of the poor, we are reminded of the way of Jesus to be merciful and to pray for our persecutors. “The Church has always been and will always be a partner of government in countless endeavors for the common good.”
Let us join our beloved bishops who are inviting us on July 16, 2018, feast of the Blessed Mother of Mt. Carmel to “spend a day of prayer and penance, invoking God’s mercy and justice on those who have blasphemed God’s Holy Name, those who slander and bear false witness, and those who commit murder or justify murder as a means for fighting criminality in our country.” They are also calling us for days of fasting, prayer and almsgiving on July 17 to 19, 2018.
